Q: I was awarded a scholarship managed by MVEF, but need to request a deferral of funds due to missionary service. What should I do?
A: To defer your scholarship:
Contact MVEF secretary (Jocelyn Witsken) by emailing (moapavef@gmail.com) or calling (661-747-5739)
Funds can be held up to 3 years from August 1st after graduation
Example: Graduate May 2025 → Funds held until August 1, 2028
If returning early from mission, you have one year to use funds
Unused funds are returned to MVEF
Q: What documents do I need to submit to receive my scholarship?
A: You need to submit:
Acceptance letter with your name on appropriate letterhead
School registrar's MAILING address
Student ID number
Class schedule (minimum 12 credit hours) or vocational coursework list
Copy of all MVEF scholarship certificates from Senior Awards Night
Personal contact information (cell phone, addresses) and a photo
Q: What can the scholarship money be used for?
A: Funds can be used in this order:
Tuition (after FAFSA and other scholarships are applied)
Books, supplies, class/lab fees
Housing and living expenses
Q: Who handles the disbursement of scholarship funds?
A: The MVEF Treasurer issues checks DIRECTLY to your school once all requirements are met.
Q: What happens if the awarded scholarship funds?
A: Unused funds, including unused dispersed funds, should be returned to MVEF unless they can be applied to a new program.
Q: Am I responsible for monitoring my scholarship funds?
A: Yes, YOU are responsible for ensuring the funds are properly applied to your student account.
